The Mavis & Ephraim Hawthorne Golden Krust Foundation (MEHGKF), founded in 2005 in memory of Mavis and Ephraim Hawthorne, was designed to perpetuate the core belief that “a mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

About the Foundation

The Mavis and Ephraim Hawthorne Golden Krust Foundation’s goal is to inspire future generations to embrace the opportunities offered to them in education and to take the limits off the possibilities opened to those who reach for the stars. This includes creating and bringing awareness of educational opportunities to the youth of our communities nationally and internationally through scholarships, internships, and mentorship. As well as being a conduit and support system for freshman through other modes of communication.

Over the years, the MEHGK Foundation has provided scholarships and endowments for several schools in Jamaica including Kingston College, Norman Hawthorne Basic School, Medina Primary School, Oberlin High School and The University of the West Indies. In the United States, the Foundation partners with Bronx Community College and Dr. V. Seymour & Dorothy May Cole Scholarship Fund. The Foundation also partners with its parent company, Golden Krust, to provide summer internships and permanent employment opportunities.
